A one-time workshop on Feminist Torah.
What is this workshop?
In this workshop, we will dive into understanding what makes Torah “feminist” and how to teach feminist Torah. Over two hours, participants will explore ancient, medieval, and modern sources of feminist wisdom, and will engage in interactive exercises to practice developing feminist-influenced Torah of their own.
When is this workshop?
This workshop is on Sunday, May 26th, from 1PM-3PM Eastern. It will be on Zoom! The two hours will include bio breaks and plenty of opportunities for engagement and active thinking.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for anyone who teaches Torah in any setting — or aspires to! Are you a pulpit rabbi who teaches all the time? A Jewish professional who sends mailings quoting Torah? A college student trying to gather the bravery to give your first dvar Torah in a lay-led minyan? This is for you!
I want to register!
Amazing! I am asking for support for the labor going into this class at a rate of $18-$36, depending on what is manageable for you. The link is set at a pay-what-you-want scale, so if you can afford less — great! I want to learn with you! And if you feel moved to support my work by paying more, I would also be grateful!
Why should I come?
Well, first of all, Torah is so great and fun. If you want to deepen the well of resources you have in your teaching, in traditional Jewish texts, modern Jewish interpretations, and “Torah” defined more expansively, this will be a great opportunity. The workshop will involve a relatively frontal piece about the multitude of resources for finding and interpreting feminist Torah, and then interactive elements to put this work into practice! We will also think about what makes Torah teaching feminist in form in addition to content: how do we pay attention to our own experiences, bodies, and needs as we teach?
Also, all participants will receive a document with resources to return to after the workshop.
