About Me

I’m passionate about Torah and mitzvot as a set of relationships: with each other, with God, with our ancestors, and with ourselves. I offer feminist and queer, halachically-informed, learning and ritual.

Avigayil is recognized internationally as a teacher of thoughtful and accessible Torah, with a focus on queer and feminist thought. She is a regular contributor to Jewish Currents' weekly Parshah Commentary, and is at work on a book about queer niddah (Jewish menstrual practice) and Jewish sexual ethics and law. She has served as a an adjunct Talmud faculty member at Hebrew College, a Scholar in Residence at the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, and was recognized as one of the New York Jewish Week’s “36 Under 36” in 2021 and twice as a “Vatichtov: She Writes” Fellow, among other fellowships and awards. She is a co-host of the “Can’t Stop Scrolling” podcast.

Avigayil has taught Torah and built community nationally and internationally, including at  Lehrhaus Tavern and House of Learning, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, the Drisha Institute, Hillel Deutschland, Base DC, Adas Israel Congregation, Halachic Left, and beyond, and currently lives in Washington, DC, where she teaches liberatory Torah to Jews of all ages and backgrounds in person and online.
